New Star Wars trailers: love the epic nature, the cinematography, and of course Han Solo. As a teenager I took the train into Boston with my best friend 18 different times to watch The Empire Strikes Back. But I went to the first Star Wars movie in 1977 because of its sense of swashbuckling adventure, and all I'm getting from the new one is doom, gloom, tragedy, decay, and battle. They're not pushing my buttons for anything.
Very intriguing, however, is the absence of Mark Hamil's face on the poster, and last week I advanced the theory that Luke Skywalker is in fact included as the masked figure. I was pretty proud of coming up with that on my own, as have other fans. (Read more in this Wall Street Journal bit).
Never trust TPTB (The Powers That Be) to be honest in marketing, especially after the Khan trick in the last Star Trek movie. In many ways it would be awesome if Luke was now a villain. Because drama! The good son gone bad. The dynasty of evil continuing. No wonder Leia looks so sad, and Han and Chewie apparently returning from exile. (They own their own spaceship. They could have returned home a long time ago, unless they faced formidable political or military roadblocks.)(Or a trade blockade, but don't get me started on the awful prequels.)
Luke as the fallen hero: that would be a very good reason to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Just wanted to say thanks for _The Outback Stars_ series.
I'd read the first book when it came out from SFBC, then bought the next two as they came out. They have sat on my to-be-read shelf, nagging at me for some time now. I read the first book again, then the next two. Each time I was forced to stay up reading until 2am, even though I knew that I had to get up at 8am. I could not go to sleep until I finished each book. At least I was able to sleep in today to make up for it.
I want the next books in the series. I want to know what job the Sea King has for Tom Cappaletto, etc... Don't leave us hanging.
Thanks...
